What to Expect

Summary

We start our day trip in Marrakech. We'll pick you up from your hotel or from the airport.

You'll start your tour at 9 am in Marrakesh, with a pickup from your hotel.

From Marrakech we drive in a southeastern direction to Ourika. This is a beautiful road and during the ride we get closer to the huge and impressive Atlas Mountains.

Before Ourika we can visit the Paradis of Safran: "Discover our organic botanical garden (Saffron, medicinal plants, citrus and exotic fruit trees). Relax in one of our terraces and admire the fantastic view of the Atlas Mountains. Do not miss our barefoot trail with herbal baths and pamper your feet with organic argan oil. At the end of your visit, we will serve you our organic 10-herbal tea with saffron.

Let yourself be surprised!"

Near Ourika we'll visit a Berber house where you'll get Moroccan Mint tea with home made butter and local honey from argan blossom and Amlu (grinded almonds with honey and argan oil) on home made bread.

After this visit we will make from about 20 minutes and we'll visit the place where the Games of Thrones has been made.

From Ourika we drive higher and higher along winding mountain roads towards Setti Fatma. During the ride you have a beautiful view of the various mountain peaks and valleys.

The village of Sti Fatma maintains a traditional way of life, with also a saffron farm and organic spice farm, produces handicrafts to sell and serves traditional tajines and bread in local restaurants; a real Berber village so. You can also visit there a Berber house and see how people live at home and enjoy a cup of mint tea and bread with delicious honey. Of course you can also buy Argan oil there, but for that you better visit the Argan area.

In the center of the Valley are the famous waterfalls where you can hike or just enjoy the view. To see the falls you have to climb quite high and the best thing to do is organising a local guide.

For the elderly who cannot appreciate going to the falls, a visit to and a lunch in Kasbah Bab Ourika can be a longer stay. There too you can enjoy a beautiful view and enjoy the delicious food.

In short, a day full of possibilities!

You'll head back to Marrakesh around 4 pm and we'll bring you back to your hotel in Marrakesh, but between Ourika and Marrakech we can visit Lake Takerkoust is you like.

We are open to other times and places, just let us know.

Details about Ourika Valley

Summary

English

Ourika river flows in the Ourika valley. The valley is located on the edge of the high Atlas, about 50 minutes drive from Marrakech. A visit to the Ourika valley is an ideal day trip to escape the bustle of the city. Because of the cooling that the valley offers, it is an ideal place in the summer and there is plenty to do.

The village of Aghmat is one of the nice villages on the way to the valley. This was an important capital city around 800 BC. This place was also important for the trading caravans that traveled from Marrakech to sub-Saharan Africa as a stop before or after passing the mountains. In Aghmat one can visit a mausoleum and there are excavations of the old irrigation systems of the city.

Along the road that leads you through the valley you come across Argan oil cooperatives. Although the Argannoot does not grow in the valley but in the vicinity of Agadir, it is processed here in the traditional way by these cooperatives where mainly Berber women work. Often you can see how the oil is made in these places. Argan oil is used as an oil for the skin and in a slightly different form for eating.

Another attraction of the valley is the hike to the seven waterfalls of Setti Fatma. You can hike here along all waterfalls.

Setti Fatma is the last village in the valley and can be a good starting point for longer hikes. You can book a guide at the local Bureau des Guides.

Scattered through the valley there are several places to stay overnight. Aghbalou is the biggest place and a good place to find a hotel. Setti Fatma is also a good place because of the waterfalls. Kasbah Bab Ourika is very nice. (Kasbahbabourika.com)

Nederlands

Erg mooi is Kasbah Bab Ourika. (Kasbahbabourika.com)

Hello! I'd like to book the private Ourika Valley tour for 2 persons on December 24. We would like to see the waterfall, but not hike it. We would also like to stop for a nice lunch, which could be the Kasbah Bab Ourika. Please let me know if this is available!
